In this building we find the same local grey stone, but this time attention should be drawn to the mouldings of the windows and the main entrance. In this case, the forms are not organic representations of nature, but geometric—also rounded—shapes with a certain symmetry. This variant of the style can be found in Central Europe, where Modernism is known as Jugendstil in Germany or Sezession Stil in Austria. There, the treatment of geometric forms became so significant that they were also incorporated into the Modernist style.
As in many other constructions, this building was erected after its owner made a fortune in France through a fruit import business. Notable is the striking contrast of coloured woods in the exterior door, also richly worked with rounded forms and mouldings.

Did you know:

Modernism is known by different names depending on the region where it is found: in Germany it is called Jugendstil; in France, Art Nouveau; in Italy, Art Liberty or Stile Floreale. In any case, it is always considered a young, new, floral style, always referring to the modern character of the concept.
