Sa Capelleta Vella
Included within the protection of the “Paisatge Pintoresc de la Serra de Tramuntana”, Sa Capelleta Vella is a structure built with unworked stones joined without mortar, forming part of popular Modernism and strongly linked to the devotion to the Mare de Déu de Lourdes, widely spread in the Vall de Sóller at the beginning of the 20th century. The chapel has a façade with several openings, the main one featuring a rose window. The interior of the building simulates a grotto, recalling the place where the Mare de Déu de Lourdes appeared. Notable is a marble angel sculpted by Miquel Vadell.
Years later, in the early 1940s, mossèn Pere Lluc Ripoll planned to rebuild the former chapel, a sanctuary dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, popularly known as Sa Capelleta Nova. The project was designed by architect Gabriel Alomar Esteve and was intended to be visible from the entire valley. Despite these intentions, lack of funding only allowed the construction of a small part. What can be visited today is only the crypt, the cambril, and the house for spiritual exercises. The death of the promoter halted the project, and the temple and bell tower designed by Alomar were never built.
