Cas Fideuer
This is a building that could be defined as Modernist with strong Historicist influence. The project was designed by the master builder Gaspar Reynés Coll, known for several works inspired by Modernism such as Cas Xicu (Sóller), Can Pujol (Palma), and Hostal Cuba (Santa Catalina, Palma). The façade is very restrained, built in Muleta stone, and features numerous floral and geometric details, present in the window railings, the main balcony, the hood moulds, and the corbels. On the stone eaves, the construction date of the building (1892) is engraved.
It was the ancestral home of the geologist Guillem Colom Casasnovas (1900–1993). He gained international recognition for his research in micropaleontology on foraminifera and calpionellids. He discovered around 250 species new to science and authored more than 200 publications, including books, articles, and studies. He was named an Illustrious Son of Sóller in 1965. The Sóller Secondary School and the Faculty of Biology of the Universitat de les Illes Balears are named after him.
