Ca Na Busquereta
This is a building set between party walls, with a semi-basement, ground floor, and two upper floors. Although it features a simple marés stone frontispiece, there is a rich abundance of projecting elements, brackets, and lintels decorated with incised geometric and floral reliefs, as well as extensive wrought-iron work. This combination of geometry and organic forms gives it great originality while clearly placing it within the Modernist style.
Geometric decoration can be just as purely Modernist as vegetal ornamentation. In fact, Modernism originated in the United Kingdom with the Arts and Crafts movement, where Morris and Ruskin valued craftsmanship above mass-produced industrial goods. However, the figure who truly became internationally renowned in the Modern Style was Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose rectilinear designs, especially in furniture, are still reproduced today.
